General Aspects
Safety and safety training is sometimes a little boring. To
repeat the same things again and again, reading from safety instructions,
trying to listen carefully at a trainer that is generally a non-inspirational person,
being aware all the time to all the risks that could damage your health or
affect your existence- could be annoying or simply extremely boring. So, many
times safety learning is turning into a formal and boring obligation.
Having an experience regarding these aspects and wanting to
have not just simply robots but people that are communicating and interacting
into a safety developed culture- we have tried to transform bits of education
into an interactive action that could be disseminated by a nice and smart
avatar- not like NAPO- that is customised strictly for your day to day needs.
Meet John the Employee
John the Employee is our first avatar- that could be seen in
the figure 1. He is a nice guy- and could be held inside a mobile (phone,
tablet or laptop).

John the Employee is based upon a scene that could be
developed very careful. The possibilities of development could be seen in
figure 2. Each object is having its own layer- and there are plenty of
libraries that could be used to place objects.

Each avatar could be based on one or more screens. Each
screen is contended into a project structure, as it could be seen in figure 3.

Figure 4 shows a typical script. This script could be
developed as needed for the next day of work.

As you can see- every line of the script could be
supplemented by moves and gestures of John. The buttons in the right would
command the moves of the character.
How John the Employee was developed
The process of development for the avatar and his script is
shown in figure 5.

The steps for the development are detailed below:
-the management is defining a goal regarding safety, goal
that must fulfill ASAP.
-the cooperative development team is formed. It includes a
safety expert, a supervisor and a designer.
-the cooperative development team is developing a draft
scenario. The draft scenario is tested on one or more subjects- and the
feedback is used to improve the scenario.
-the scenario is implemented into IT. Implementation could
be done as flash snippets, as a movie or as HTML5 programme.
The piece is transferred to the mobiles of the employees-
to be used when intended.
